Anxiety an Issue?

Anxiety itself is not a bad thing. Anxiety keeps us from grabbing a snake or could let us know we need to reconsider an important decision. It becomes a problem when it interferes with your life. Anxiety is characterized by an overwhelming sense of nervousness or fear of something. Many people become overwhelmed and are unable to move forward in life – experiencing gripping issues with panic and doom. Anxiety is associated with worry. When you spend an abnormal amount of time worrying about someone or issues that are out of your control it becomes a problem. The counselors with CAE teach techniques to help release anxiety, as well as therapy to help you to cope and learn how to handle the issues relating to anxiety.

Could I Be Depressed?

Depression tends to have a family connection, but you can learn tools that can help you to feel better. Studies have shown that the best treatment for clinical depression is talk therapy in conjunction with medication. Not all depression requires medication. If you are experiencing situational depression – something happened like some kind of loss for example, then feeling sadness is appropriate. Depression is expressed in different ways, but the most common are:

  • A strong desire to sleep a lot
  • More emotional than usual – crying
  • Lack of energy or desire to move forward
  • Low tolerance for stress
  • Inability to cope with the normal issues of life
  • Anger in some cases
  • A change in appetite – includes both increase and decrease depending on the individual.
  • In some cases a lack of grooming or hygiene
  • In some cases thoughts of suicide or self harm
  • A generalized sadness or intense sadness
Depression is a serious condition and needs professional help. There is hope and there are tools that can help. Call us for a screening.
